To celebrate the milestone of my first one hundred pieces, I built this rustic rocker with local woods and Zebra from Africa. On the Black Walnut rockers, I left the heavy sawmill marks on the sides by just hitting them lightly with a hand plane, and left the axe marks on the Red Oak rounds rather than draw-knifing them clean. Russian Olive is an Asian import that has taken over the western river bottoms. Using it with the bark intact gives the maker the possibility of displaying three different colors; gray bark, white sapwood and a rich heartwood similar to a lighter, reddish walnut. This chair sold to a popular midwife in Texas, where I hope it is still rocking many new babies each year...Now available by custom order in your choice of woods, and with ergonomically shaped Hickory Bark seat.
